STEM Satruday Program for Children in Grades 1-5 in Germantown (Philadelphia)

Below are some specifics:

Saturday Science Program
The Young Carver Saturday Science program for grades 1-5 allows students to discover science through innovative and engaging activities that are hands on and aligned to state and national standards. Our goal is to light the fire of scientific curiosity in young minds.
When: Saturdays starting October 24th – December 19th
Time: 9am-10am
Where: 5040 Germantown Ave Philadelphia, Pa
Cost: $150 with 2 payments of $75 each or one payment of $125
Class Outline
Weeks 1-3
Introduction to Chemistry
Children will learn the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Using different examples of each, we will collectively arrive at the definitions of the states of matter. In addition, using a series of chemical demonstrations, students will learn the two types of changes, physical change and chemical change.
Weeks 4-6
Electricity & Magnatism
Using our Young Carver circuit boards designed specifically for young children, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of electricity and define key terms such as conductivity, resistance, voltage, load and current. The danger of electricity and safety will be discussed also. In addition, we will take a closer look at the relationship between voltage, current and resistance by building circuits. This relationship is defined as ohms law and it is the basic principle of electricity.
Weeks  7-9
Environmental and Life Science
Children will build a real insect and reptile ecosytem which will include green analoes (reptile) frogs, turtles and an assortment of insects. Over a 3 week period students will study  this ecosystem and how our human actions effect such environments through a group research project.
